Balloon Pop is a balloon typing game with one clever rule: every balloon is coloured to match the finger that should type it. You type the letter or word on a balloon, it pops, and without thinking about it you learn which finger belongs to which key. It is free, runs in your browser with no sign-up, and it is the gentlest game in our collection – ideal for complete beginners and for kids learning the keyboard for the first time.
What is a balloon typing game?
In a balloon burst game, you pop balloons before they get away. In a typing version, you pop them with the keyboard: each balloon carries a letter or a short word, and typing it correctly bursts the balloon. Balloon Pop adds a teaching layer on top. The colour of each balloon matches a finger, using the same finger colours as the on-screen keyboard in our lessons and typing tests. So the game is not only about spotting the letter – it shows you how to type it properly.
Like every game on the site, Balloon Pop has levels that speed up as you improve, a small number of lives, combos for clean streaks, sound effects for each pop and a high score saved in your browser.
How the balloon colours teach finger placement
Touch typing gives each finger its own set of keys. Once you know the map, you never need to look down. The balloon colour is a shortcut to that map: see the colour, use that finger. Here is which finger covers which keys on a standard QWERTY keyboard:

How to play Balloon Pop
- Sit up straight with your wrists relaxed and your fingers on the home row.
- Start level 1. Balloons with letters appear.
- Look at a balloon's colour, then press its key with the matching finger.
- After each key, let your finger return to its home key.
- Pop balloons without mistakes to build a combo. If a balloon escapes, you lose a life.
- When your lives run out, check your score and play again to beat your high score.
The words come from the language you choose, so you can play an English typing balloon game or practise typing games in English, Hindi, Spanish and many other languages. Who should play the balloon typing game?
Kids
Balloon Pop is designed as a balloon typing game for kids. Children aged about 5–10 enjoy the bright colours and the satisfying pop, and the colour rule gives them a clear instruction without long explanations. For typing games for 4 year olds and kindergarten children, sit with them and pop single letters together. Typing games for 7 year olds and 8 year olds can move on to short, easy words. Elementary students in class
For typing games for elementary students, Balloon Pop works well as a 10-minute activity after a lesson. There are no logins, so every child can start at once. Each high score is saved only in that computer's browser.
Adult beginners
If you have typed with two fingers for years, this game is a friendly way to retrain. It feels easy, but using the right finger for every balloon is harder than it sounds when your habits say otherwise. A week of short sessions makes the colour-to-finger link automatic. Balloon games for adults may sound silly, but as a touch typing balloon game this one fixes exactly the habit that slows most self-taught typists down, and it is a gentler start than typing test games for adults.
Not for advanced typers

From popping balloons to a real typing test
A high score shows you are improving, but to see your actual speed, take a short test. Once you can pop balloons without looking at the keys, try the typing test for kids or a one-minute test. Your speed is measured in words per minute, where a "word" is five characters:
WPM = (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes
Accuracy = correct keystrokes ÷ all keystrokes × 100
For example, a beginner who types 100 correct characters in 2 minutes scores 100 ÷ 5 = 20 words, and 20 ÷ 2 = 10 WPM. If they pressed 110 keys, accuracy is 100 ÷ 110 × 100 ≈ 91%. For a beginner, getting accuracy above 90% matters more than the speed number; speed follows once the fingers know the way.
Tips for popping more balloons
- Trust the colour. Use the finger the balloon shows, even when another finger feels quicker.
- Go home after every key. Returning to the home row keeps every reach short.
- Eyes up. Watch the balloons, not your hands. If you must look, look at the on-screen keyboard.
- Slow and clean wins. Combos come from accuracy, not speed.
- Keep it short. Ten minutes a day is better than an hour once a week, especially for kids.
