Hindi typing in English keyboard mode lets you type Hindi on the keyboard you already have, with no Hindi stickers and nothing to install. On this page you do it phonetically: every Hindi word shows a simple English-letter spelling under it (नमस्ते = namaste, भारत = bhaarat, कमरा = kamraa), and you type that spelling. The site also has two proper Hindi keyboards built in, Inscript and Remington GAIL, which also work on a normal English keyboard. This guide explains all three and when to use each. Three ways to do Hindi typing with an English keyboard on this site

All three run inside the page. Pick one from the Keyboard menu above the test: "Phonetic — type Hindi in English letters", Inscript, Remington GAIL, or "My own Hindi keyboard / input method" if you already use a Hindi keyboard on your computer. On phones, phonetic is chosen automatically.
How phonetic Hindi typing works here
Phonetic Hindi typing turns sounds into English letters. You do not need to remember a chart, because the spelling is always shown under the word; you just type it exactly. A few rules make the spellings predictable:
- Long vowels are doubled: aa, ee, oo. So पानी is paanee and फूल is phool.
- An h makes the breathy (aspirated) letter: k → kh, g → gh, b → bh, and chh for छ.
- The silent "a" is dropped the way people speak: भारत is bhaarat, not bhaarata, and कमरा is kamraa.
- The dot (anusvara ं) is n, or m before p, b or m: हिंदी is hindee, चंपा is champaa.
- Joined letters are typed in order: क्षमा is kshamaa, ज्ञान is jnyaan, श्री is shree.

Some pairs share a spelling (ट and त are both t, ठ and थ are both th). That is fine here, because the Hindi word is always on screen, and it is one reason phonetic typing suits practice better than exams.
How to learn Hindi typing in English keyboard online (English keyboard se Hindi typing kaise kare)
- Leave your computer or phone on English. Nothing needs to be installed, and Hindi font typing in English keyboard mode needs no special font: the page loads a Hindi font for you.
- Look at the first Hindi word and the spelling below it, for example पानी with paanee.
- Type the spelling and press Space. Mistyped letters show in red, and the result screen lists the words you missed.
- Repeat for a few days. You will start to predict the spellings before you read them, and that is when you are really learning. Ten minutes of Hindi typing practice in English keyboard mode a day is enough to start.
The word lists use common, everyday Hindi, which makes them good Hindi typing words for beginners. For longer practice, open the Hindi typing test and choose Phonetic in the Keyboard menu there.
When to use phonetic, and when to learn Inscript or Remington
Use phonetic to learn to read and type Hindi words, to practise on a phone, or when you just want to type Hindi without learning a layout. It is the quickest way to start.
Learn Inscript or Remington GAIL if you need Hindi typing for a job or an exam. Government typing tests such as CPCT, SSC and court exams accept only these standard Hindi keyboards, and they are also faster once learned, because one key gives one letter or matra instead of two or three English letters. English to Hindi typing is not translation
Phonetic typing converts sounds, not meaning. Typing "paanee" gives पानी, but typing "water" does not. If you need the meaning of an English word in Hindi, that is translation, which this site does not do. English to Hindi typing here only means writing Hindi words with English letters. Nor is it an English to Hindi typing converter for files: it is online typing practice for your PC, laptop or phone.
Hindi typing in other apps: Windows, MS Word, Android and iPhone
The keyboards on this site work on this site only. For Hindi typing in MS Word with an English keyboard, or in WhatsApp and other apps, add a Hindi keyboard to your device. Menu names vary a little by version:
- Windows 10 and 11 PC or laptop: for English to Hindi typing in any Windows app, open Settings → Time & language → Language & region, add Hindi, then add a keyboard under its options (Windows offers a Hindi phonetic keyboard as well as Inscript, called "Hindi Traditional"). To change from English to Hindi typing on a laptop or PC, press Win + Space.
- Android: to type Hindi with the English keyboard letters on Android, open Gboard settings, go to Languages, add Hindi and choose the transliteration layout.
- iPhone: to add Hindi typing to your English keyboard on iPhone, go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard → Hindi, and choose Transliteration.
