What is a typing certificate?
A typing certificate is a document that states how fast and how accurately someone typed in a test. There are three very different kinds, and it matters which one you need:

In Hindi, people often ask "typing certificate kya hota hai" – what is a typing certificate. The short answer: it is proof of a speed. Whether a particular certificate is accepted depends entirely on who asks for it.
How to get a free typing certificate online
- Take a test. Use the typing speed test for English or any language test, such as the Hindi typing test. Pick the length you want printed.
- Click "Get certificate" on the result screen. That result is selected on this page. If you open this page directly, your best saved result is selected, and a list (newest first) lets you choose any other.
- Enter your name. Check the spelling – it is printed exactly as you type it. The optional "For" line can hold a school, class or course name.
- Download it. Save as a PNG image to share or attach, or print it and choose "Save as PDF".

You cannot type in a speed: a certificate can only be made from a result saved in this browser. For a certificate you plan to show anyone, take a test of at least 1 minute – ideally 5 minutes – so the speed reflects your real typing.
What the typing certificate shows
The typing certificate format is a clean, printable page with:
- Your name, as you entered it.
- Net speed in WPM – words per minute counted from correct characters only.
- Accuracy as a percentage, so it is a typing certificate with accuracy, not just speed.
- Test length (for example 1 minute or 5 minutes) and the language you typed in – English, Hindi or any of 40+ languages.
- The date you took the test.
- A certificate ID – a short code made from your name and result, so two different certificates never share the same ID.

How the WPM on your certificate is calculated
The speed on the certificate is net WPM – it only counts what you typed correctly. That is why it can be lower than the speed you saw during the test.
Net WPM = (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes
Accuracy = correct keystrokes ÷ all keystrokes × 100
Example. In a 5-minute test you type 1,100 characters, of which 1,050 are correct. Net speed = 1,050 ÷ 5 ÷ 5 = 42 WPM. Accuracy = 1,050 ÷ 1,100 = about 95%. Your certificate would show 42 WPM with 95% accuracy – comfortably above a 40 net WPM target. You can check any figure with the WPM calculator.
Typing certificate for government jobs and exams
A self-generated certificate is not a government typing certificate. For government jobs, the rules of each recruitment decide what counts, so always read the official notification. As per recent notifications – always check the official notice for your exam:
- SSC CGL and SSC CHSL: no typing certificate is required. SSC holds its own computer-based typing or data-entry skill test, and only that result counts. Practise for it with the SSC typing test.
- RRB NTPC: for posts that need typing, the railway board conducts its own typing skill test; a certificate is not asked for.
- Bank PO: typing certificates are generally not part of the selection.
- MPSC Group C and Maharashtra state jobs: for clerk-typist posts, the typing certificate requirements in Maharashtra usually ask for a Government Commercial Certificate (GCC) in typewriting – for example Marathi 30 WPM and English 40 WPM – issued by the state examination council after a supervised exam. That is what "GCC typing certificate" means. A website certificate cannot replace it.
- Other states: some states, such as Tamil Nadu, run their own government typewriting examinations with lower and higher grades. Check your state's rules for any typing certificate for a state job.
So, how do you get a certified typing certificate? Register for your state's official typing or commercial-certificate exam, or the skill test named in your job notification. Use this site to prepare: practise at the exam's speed, then take the real exam.

Can a typing certificate be verified?
The certificate ID is calculated from your name and result, but there is no online register to look it up: the certificate is generated in your browser and nothing is stored on a server. If an employer needs verified proof, they will normally ask you to take a supervised test. Be ready to type at your certificate speed in front of them – the best verification is being able to do it again.
Tips for a better typing certificate
- Warm up first. Take two or three 1-minute tests before the one you will certify.
- Protect accuracy. Aim for 95% or better; a certificate showing 45 WPM at 97% looks stronger than 55 WPM at 85%.
- Choose the right length. A 1-minute certificate shows sprint speed; a 5-minute or 10-minute one shows stamina, which employers trust more.
- Match the language. Applying for a Hindi post? Take the Hindi test (Inscript or Remington GAIL) so the certificate shows Hindi typing. You can make a Hindi and an English certificate separately.
