Hindi typing sikhe bina kisi software ke: the lessons above teach you the Hindi keyboard one pair of keys at a time, right on your normal English keyboard. You do not need to install a Hindi keyboard, a Mangal font or a Kruti Dev font. The site turns each key you press into the correct Devanagari letter and shows the Hindi letter on every key of the on-screen keyboard. If you have been asking "हिंदी टाइपिंग कैसे सीखे कंप्यूटर में", this page is the full answer: which layout to pick, what each lesson teaches, and how to practise.
Hindi typing kaise sikhe: the short answer
Learning Hindi typing is the same skill as English touch typing, with a different map of letters. The steps that work for almost everyone:
- Choose one layout and stay with it. Inscript or Remington GAIL. Switching between them in the first months confuses your fingers.
- Learn the home row first. Every other key is a reach from there.
- Learn matras with their consonants. Type words, not single letters, as soon as you can.
- Learn half letters (conjuncts) last. Once the letters are automatic, क्ष, त्र and स्त are just a few extra keys. The Inscript course gives them their own "Joined letters" lesson near the end.
- Practise 20–30 minutes a day. Hindi typing ghar par kaise sikhe? With short, regular practice: you can learn Hindi typing at home with nothing more than a laptop or computer.
That is also the honest answer to "Hindi typing aasani se kaise sikhe": there is no trick, but small steps are how to learn Hindi typing easily. If you already know Hindi spelling well, you can usually finish the course in three to five weeks and reach about 20–25 WPM in two to three months of daily practice. That is enough for many Hindi typing exams, which typically ask for 25–30 WPM. These are typical figures; your pace depends on practice time.
Inscript or Remington: which layout should you learn?
This is the first question for anyone asking "Hindi typing kis font me sikhe". The honest answer: choose by layout, not by font, and choose the layout your exam or job uses. When you open a Hindi course, the page asks the same question in one line: preparing for a government typing exam (SSC, CPCT, courts)? Learn Remington GAIL. Want to type Hindi every day on a computer or phone? Learn Inscript.
| Inscript (Mangal) | Remington GAIL (Kruti Dev) | |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | Standard Hindi keyboard for computers, built into Windows as "Hindi Traditional" | Based on the old Hindi typewriter |
| Font | Unicode fonts such as Mangal; text works everywhere | Kruti Dev and Devlys are older non-Unicode fonts; Remington GAIL gives the same layout in Unicode |
| Logic | Vowels and matras on the left hand, consonants on the right; Shift gives the full vowel or the aspirated consonant | No simple pattern; keys must be memorised |
| Short i matra (ि) | Typed after the consonant: क then ि = कि | Typed before the consonant: ि then क = कि |
| Half letters | Consonant + halant (्) + consonant, e.g. क ् ष = क्ष | Many half letters have their own key, e.g. श्, ख्, ण्, ध् |
| Course on this site | 31 lessons, including "Joined letters (halant)" | 30 lessons, with half-letter keys taught as normal keys |
| Best for | New learners, office work, everyday typing | Government typing exams; people who learnt on a typewriter or Kruti Dev |
As per recent notifications, SSC allows Hindi in Kruti Dev (Remington) or Mangal (Inscript), and MP CPCT allows Remington GAIL or Inscript. Rules change, so always check the official notice for your exam before choosing.
If you have no exam rule to follow, learn Inscript. Its pattern makes it easier to learn from zero, and Mangal/Unicode text works in Word, email, WhatsApp Web and government portals.
What a Hindi typing lesson looks like
Both Hindi courses start with lesson 0, "Start here": sit tall, find home on the F and J bumps, and keep your eyes up. You press F and J together to finish it, or skip it if you already know the basics. After that, every letter lesson has the same five steps, shown as dots at the top of the lesson.
1. Meet the keys: sound, type and rule
Each new letter appears on a big keycap in the colour of the finger that presses it. For Hindi, the card adds three things an English lesson does not need:
- The sound, so you connect the key to what you hear: क is "ka", र is "ra".
- The type of sign: consonant, full vowel, vowel sign (matra), halant, nukta or nasal sign such as ं. On Remington, half letters such as ण् are marked as half letters.
- The rule for your layout. In Inscript, matras are typed after the consonant, even ि: कि = क + ि. In Remington, ि is typed before the letter, exactly as it looks on paper: कि = ि + क.
The card also names the finger and the row, gives a tip and an example word, and animated hands tap the key. The 🔊 Listen button reads the card aloud, in Hindi when your computer or phone has a Hindi voice.
2. Find the key, 3. Mix it up
Next, one huge letter at a time: about five presses of each new key, then the two in turn. The on-screen keyboard stays dim and lights the key only if you pause for 2 seconds or press a different key, so your fingers learn by feel. Then short letter groups mix the new keys with the ones you already know.
4. Real words, 5. One sentence
Words come next, each typed twice and then all mixed. With only a few letters the page labels them honestly as "Practice words — not real Hindi"; as soon as your letters allow it, the note changes to "You can already type real Hindi words". From lesson 7, each lesson ends with one line of real words while the keyboard is hidden.
Mistakes, wrong script and stars
The cursor waits for the right key, and a slip is explained by finger, never with a red "wrong": which hand or which finger you used instead, and where the right key is. Miss one key three times and its card comes back. A common Hindi problem is having the Windows Hindi keyboard switched on while the site is also converting your keys. The lesson spots this and tells you to switch Windows back to English with Win + Space, because the site turns your English keys into Hindi itself.
Stars are about accuracy: at least 85% to pass lessons 1–6 and 90% from lesson 7, 90% for two stars, and 95% plus a small speed goal for three. Speed never blocks you. From the second try, "Continue anyway" lets you move on, and the lesson is marked for review on the map.
Inscript key positions: the Hindi typing learning chart
If you want to learn Hindi typing for the Mangal font, this is the layout to learn. Searching for a "Hindi typing kaise sikhe" PDF? Print these tables as your chart; the lessons above then check every key you press, which no PDF can do.
Home row
| English key | Hindi (normal) | With Shift | Finger |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | ो | ओ | left little |
| S | े | ए | left ring |
| D | ् (halant) | अ | left middle |
| F | ि | इ | left index |
| G | ु | उ | left index |
| H | प | फ | right index |
| J | र | ऱ | right index |
| K | क | ख | right middle |
| L | त | थ | right ring |
| ; | च | छ | right little |
| ' | ट | ठ | right little |
So the Inscript home row is ो े ् ि ु प र क त च ट. Notice the pattern: the left hand holds matras, and Shift on those keys gives the full vowel (ि → इ, े → ए). The right hand holds consonants, and Shift usually gives the aspirated partner (क → ख, त → थ, च → छ, प → फ).
Top and bottom rows
- Top row (Q to ]): ौ ै ा ी ू ब ह ग द ज ड ़. With Shift: औ ऐ आ ई ऊ भ ङ घ ध झ ढ ञ.
- Bottom row (Z to /): ॆ ं म न व ल स , . य. With Shift, the useful ones are ँ (X), ण (C), श (M), ष (,) and the full stop । (.).
- Number row with Shift: ज्ञ (5), त्र (6), क्ष (7), श्र (8).
Hindi typing words for beginners (Inscript)
How do you do Hindi typing practice before you know the whole keyboard? With words made only from the keys you have learned. These are good Hindi typing words for practice, with the English keys to press:
- पर = H J · तक = L K · कि = K F
- चुप = ; G H · रोक = J A K
- पत्र = H L D J (प + त + ् + र) · क्रिकेट = K D J F K S '
- कमल = K C N · किताब = K F L E Y · नमस्ते = V C M D L S
The first five are made only from home-row keys, which is why the Inscript course can give you real Hindi words early on. In Hindi typing learning, beginners do best with this kind of practice, because every word uses keys their fingers already know.

Remington GAIL key positions and Kruti Dev
On the Remington layout the home row is ं े क ि ह ी र ा स य (A to ;), with श् on the quote key. The top row runs ु ू म त ज ल न प व च. So कमल is D E Y, and राम is J K E.
The big difference is the short i: on Remington you type ि before the consonant, exactly as it appears on paper. For कि you press F, then D. The site accepts this typewriter order and saves the result as correct Unicode (Mangal-compatible) text, so it works for CPCT practice and other exams too. Many half letters, such as ण् and ध्, have their own keys, so you type them in one stroke instead of building them with a halant.
If your goal is Hindi typing learning for Kruti Dev or Remington GAIL, the Remington course is the one to pick: people who learn Hindi typing on a Kruti Dev keyboard chart will find the same key positions here. Candidates for Rajasthan exams who use Devlys 010 may also find it a useful Hindi typing tutor, since Devlys uses a similar typewriter layout; check your exam's font list to be sure.

Hindi typing on laptop, computer and mobile
Computer ya laptop me Hindi typing kaise sikhe (Windows)
On this site you do not need any setup: keep Windows on English and choose a Hindi course, and the site converts your keys. For typing Hindi in other programs, add the Hindi keyboard in Windows: Settings → Time & language → Language & region → add Hindi, then choose the "Hindi Traditional" (Inscript) keyboard. The Hindi typing keyboard shortcut key to switch between English and Hindi is Windows + Space, or Left Alt + Shift, and on a laptop it works the same way.
Hindi typing kaise sikhe mobile se (phone se)
Phone keyboards for Hindi are built for thumbs, and they do not match Inscript or Remington exactly. To learn the computer layout on a phone or tablet, connect a keyboard with an OTG cable or Bluetooth. Hindi typing kis app se sikhe? You do not need a Hindi typing learning app: the lessons and tests run in the phone's browser. For exams, practise on a real keyboard as early as possible.
Typing Hindi in English letters: the phonetic option
Some people want to type Hindi in English words, for example "namaste" for नमस्ते. The site has this too, as a practice mode on the typing tests (not inside the lessons): open the Keyboard menu and pick "Phonetic — type Hindi in English letters". Each Hindi word then shows its simple English-letter spelling under it, and you type that spelling: नमस्ते = namaste, कमरा = kamraa, भारत = bhaarat. Long vowels are doubled (aa, ee, oo). On phones, phonetic is the default for Hindi tests.
Phonetic typing is good for learning Hindi words and for everyday practice, and our Hindi phonetic typing page explains it in detail. It is not a keyboard layout that typing exams accept, though. For a job or exam, learn Inscript or Remington with the lessons above.
Hindi typing tips for beginners
Whether you use Mangal or Kruti Dev, the same habits decide how fast you improve. Keep these in mind for every Hindi typing practice session:
- Learn the halant early. On Inscript it sits on D, under your left middle finger, and it arrives in lesson 2. Every joined letter uses it.
- Get the ि order right for your layout. After the consonant in Inscript, before it in Remington. This is the most common beginner mistake when people switch layouts.
- Watch nukta and chandrabindu. ़ and ँ are easy to forget; exams count them as mistakes.
- Say the word in your head. Typing in syllables (क्रि-के-ट) keeps the matra order right.
- Accuracy before speed. In many exams each wrong word costs you a full word from your net speed, which is why the lesson stars count accuracy first.
- Do not switch fonts mid-course. Mangal and Kruti Dev look similar but use different layouts.
After the lessons: tests and exam practice
When you finish the course, move to full passages. Hindi typing practice for CPCT, SSC and court exams is about long passages with exam rules, not short drills. The Hindi typing test gives you timed Hindi text on either layout. For exam-style practice, the CPCT Hindi typing test and SSC typing test pages use exam time limits, backspace rules and the exam's own way of counting mistakes. Hindi typing is also useful for jobs in courts, district offices and Hindi media, where 25–30 WPM with high accuracy is a common requirement.
