Loading indonesian typing test…

This Indonesian typing test checks how fast and how accurately you type real Bahasa Indonesia. In Indonesian it is simply a tes mengetik – or, more precisely, a tes kecepatan mengetik online (an online typing speed test). The words and paragraphs are everyday Indonesian, the test runs in any browser, and it is completely free: no account, no app, no limit on how many tests you take.

Why Indonesian is easy to type on any keyboard

Indonesian uses the plain Latin alphabet with no accents, no special letters and no extra keys. The keyboard sold in Indonesia is the ordinary US QWERTY layout, so there is nothing to install and nothing to switch: the test uses your keyboard exactly as it is. That makes a Bahasa Indonesia typing test one of the fairest ways to compare your speed with an English score – the keys are the same, only the words change.

What does change is the rhythm of the language:

  • Long words built from affixes. Prefixes and suffixes such as me-, ber-, di-, ter-, -kan, -an and -nya turn short roots into long words: baca becomes membacakan, ponsel becomes ponselnya. Common endings are worth practising as whole finger patterns.
  • Lots of the letter A. Indonesian uses the vowel a far more than English, which puts extra work on your left little finger. If that finger is weak, your speed drops on long Indonesian paragraphs.
  • Digraphs ng and ny. Words like dengan, yang, nyanyi repeat the same finger pairs. Practise them until they flow as one movement.
  • Hyphens for plurals. Reduplicated words such as adik-adik or anak-anak use the hyphen key, which sits far to the right on the top row. The paragraph tests include these, so you practise reaching for it.

How to take the tes mengetik online

Pick Indonesian in the language menu (or stay on this page, where it is already chosen), then choose the kind of test you want. Your normal keyboard is used directly, so the on-screen keyboard simply shows US QWERTY with each key coloured by the finger that should press it, and animated hands show the right finger for every letter. If you are learning to type without looking, keep that picture on screen; once you know the keys, hide it in settings.

Types of typing test you can take

People searching for different types of typing test usually mean one of these examples of typing test formats. All of them work as a typing Indonesian language test here:

Test typeIn IndonesianBest for
1-minute timed testtes mengetik cepatA quick speed check or daily warm-up
5 or 10-minute testtes mengetik panjangStamina and job tests
Paragraph testtes mengetik paragrafReal sentences with punctuation and capitals
Numbers testtes mengetik angkaAdmin and data-entry work
Custom textteks sendiriYour own document, lesson or exam passage

The Indonesia typing test paragraph mode uses short, natural texts about family, school, work and daily life, so you type sentences the way you would in a real document. The numbers mode mixes figures into the text – the quickest way to practise a tes mengetik angka online without a separate keypad drill; keep the number row under your fingers and a fast tes mengetik angka cepat result follows. For pure keypad speed, try the 10-key typing test in the tools section.

How your Indonesian typing speed is calculated

Indonesian words are longer than English ones on average, so counting real words would make Indonesian typists look slow. Like most typing tests, this one counts every five characters (including spaces) as one word, which makes your Indonesian and English scores fair to compare.

WPM = (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes

Accuracy = correct keystrokes ÷ all keystrokes × 100

Example. In a 3-minute test you type 690 characters and 660 are correct. Your speed is 660 ÷ 5 ÷ 3 = 44 WPM; your raw speed is 690 ÷ 5 ÷ 3 = 46 WPM; your accuracy is 660 ÷ 690 = about 96%; and your CPM is 660 ÷ 3 = 220 characters per minute. The result screen also shows consistency and a speed chart for each second of the test.

What is a good typing speed in Indonesian?

Because Indonesian uses the same keys as English, the usual benchmarks apply. The average typing speed of adults is about 40 WPM.

WPM (about)LevelWhat it means
Under 25Pemula (beginner)Still looking at the keys
25–40Rata-rata (average)Fine for chat, email and school work
40–60Baik (good)Enough for most office and admin jobs
60–80Cepat (fast)Typical of trained typists and writers
80+Sangat cepat (very fast)Rare; years of ten-finger typing

Aim for 95% accuracy or better. For typing tests in job applications – admin, customer service, data entry – employers often look for about 35–50 WPM, but the exact target is set by each company, so check the job advert.

Tips: tes mengetik cepat 10 jari

Ten-finger typing (mengetik 10 jari) is the single biggest step up from two-finger typing. Here is a simple plan:

  1. Home row first. Rest your fingers on A S D F and J K L ; with thumbs on Space. Feel the bumps on F and J. The touch typing lessons teach this key by key.
  2. Accuracy before speed. Slow down until you make almost no mistakes; speed comes by itself. Turn on stop-on-error mode if you tend to rush.
  3. Short daily practice. A few 1-minute tests every day beat one long session a week – this web page is ready for latihan tes mengetik online any time, with nothing to install. Add a 5-minute test once a week to check stamina.
  4. Drill your weak keys. After each test, open the suggested keys in typing practice, which builds text from the letters you miss most.
  5. Make it a game. If you want a game tes mengetik online, every typing game on the site can use Indonesian words.

Belajar mengetik cepat 10 jari: a plan for beginners

What is ten-finger typing called? In English, mengetik 10 jari is called touch typing: every finger has its own keys and you do not look down. If you are a beginner (pemula) starting from zero (dari awal), this order works well on a laptop or desktop keyboard:

  1. Week 1 – home row. Do the first lessons of the typing lessons, then one short Indonesian test a day. This is your latihan mengetik 10 jari.
  2. Week 2 – whole words. Take 1- and 2-minute tests; a tes kecepatan mengetik 2 menit is long enough to show real speed without tiring you.
  3. Week 3 – numbers and English. Turn on numbers for latihan mengetik 10 jari angka, and switch to English for a tes kecepatan mengetik bahasa Inggris.
  4. Every week – one game. A game latihan mengetik 10 jari bahasa Indonesia keeps practice fun, especially for children in primary school (anak SD); the typing test for kids uses easier words.

This web page needs no app, no software and no install: belajar mengetik 10 jari online gratis works in any browser, on a laptop or on a phone (HP). It does need an internet connection to load, so it is not an offline application.

Formal Indonesian, not slang

The test uses standard Indonesian (bahasa baku), not chat slang such as gak, udah or banget. That is what you will type in school work, office documents and job tests. If you want to practise informal Indonesian text or slang from your own messages, paste it into custom mode.

English tests and phone typing

Many Indonesian job tests also check English. Switch the language menu to English, or open the English typing test, for a tes mengetik bahasa Inggris on the same keyboard. Your results for each language are saved separately in your browser.

The test also works on phones and tablets using your normal on-screen keyboard. Thumb typing is usually much slower than a physical keyboard, and autocorrect can change words, so compare phone results only with other phone results.
