A typing race turns a plain speed test into a contest. In this car typing game you type a paragraph, and every correct stretch of text pushes your car down the track. Three rival cars race alongside you, so you always know whether you are ahead or falling behind. It is free, runs in your browser and a single race is short – perfect for a quick warm-up or a proper practice session.
What is the typing race game?
It is a racing game where the keyboard is your accelerator. The track sits on top and a real paragraph sits below it. Every word you type correctly moves your car forward, while a mistake stops it until you fix it with Backspace. The three rival cars drive at steady speeds set by the difficulty you pick – about 20–30 WPM on Easy, 35–50 on Normal and 55–80 on Hard – so you move up a difficulty as your speed grows.
Because you type a full paragraph rather than single words, this game is the closest thing in our typing games collection to a real typing test. You deal with longer words, spaces between words and the rhythm of real sentences. Like the other games, it has levels, combos for clean typing and a high score saved in your browser.
How to play a typing race online
- Get in position. Fingers on the home row (A S D F, J K L ;), thumbs over the space bar, eyes on the screen.
- Start the race. Read the first few words of the paragraph before your fingers move.
- Type the paragraph. Your car moves with every correct stretch of text. Watch the rivals out of the corner of your eye, not the keyboard.
- Fix mistakes quickly. A wrong key costs you ground, so correct it calmly and keep going.
- Finish the text. The race ends when you type the last word. Check your place and your score, then race again.
As a typing car game for PC or laptop, it works with any keyboard and needs no install. The game also runs on a phone or tablet, but a phone's touch keyboard is much slower than a real one, so a typing race for mobile is more about fun than training. For real practice, use a physical keyboard.
Can you race with friends?
This typing race has no online multiplayer, no accounts and no public leaderboard. The three rival cars are computer-controlled, which means you can race at any time without waiting for other players. To race against friends, take turns on the same computer and compare scores, or each race on your own device and share a screenshot of your result. For a typing race in the classroom, a teacher can run a "fastest finisher" challenge the same way: everyone races the rivals, and the best score wins.
Racing computer rivals has one real advantage: they never quit, never lag and are always ready. That makes them ideal for daily typing race practice.
Why a car typing game improves your speed
It makes you keep going
In a plain test, it is easy to slow down halfway through. In a race, a rival car pulling ahead is a strong reason to keep your pace up. That extra push over dozens of races is what lifts your average speed.
It rewards accuracy
Because every mistake costs you ground, you quickly learn that typing with no error is faster than typing quickly and correcting. This is the most important lesson in any speed test: raw speed means little if you have to go back.
It trains rhythm on long text
Long text teaches you to keep a steady beat across spaces, long words and common letter pairs. That rhythm carries over to emails, reports and exams where you type long passages.
How fast should you be? Words per minute explained
In any typing race, words per minute decide who wins, but your race result here shows your place against the rivals. To know your exact words per minute, take a WPM test alongside your races. Typing speed is worked out like this:
WPM = (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes
Raw WPM = (all typed characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes
Say you type a 250-character paragraph with no errors in 75 seconds (1.25 minutes). That is 250 ÷ 5 = 50 words, and 50 ÷ 1.25 = 40 WPM.
Is 40 WPM a good typing speed?
Yes – 40 WPM is about the average for adults, and it is enough for most everyday work. How fast is 40 WPM typing in practice? It means a 200-word email takes about five minutes. The table below gives typical ranges.
| Speed | Level | What it feels like in a race |
|---|---|---|
| Under 25 WPM | Beginner | You win early levels by staying accurate |
| 25–40 WPM | Average | You win some races and lose others |
| 40–60 WPM | Good | You win most races at middle levels |
| 60–80 WPM | Fast | You need to be near perfect on high levels |
| 100+ WPM | Elite | Only a small share of typists reach this |
The fastest typists in the world have been recorded at well over 150 WPM for short bursts, but for everyday typing and most jobs, 50–60 WPM with 95% accuracy is a strong target. Compare yourself with the average typing speed for your age and job.
Typing race for beginners and kids
If you are just starting, a race can feel stressful. Treat Easy as practice: ignore the rivals for the first few races and focus on typing every word correctly. Once you finish without stopping, start trying to win. A car typing game for kids works best for children who can already read a short paragraph – usually from about 8 or 9. Younger children should start with the balloon game.
How to start typing for beginners in general: learn the home row, then one new row at a time, in short lessons. Racing is the reward once each row feels comfortable.
How to win more races (and type 90 WPM one day)
- Read ahead. While your fingers type one word, your eyes should be on the next.
- Keep your eyes off the keyboard. Every glance down costs time and breaks rhythm.
- Relax your hands. Tense fingers are slower and make more mistakes.
- Slow down to speed up. If you make more than one mistake per line, drop your pace slightly for a few races.
- Practise your weak keys. The paragraph typing test shows which keys you miss most; drill them, then race again.
- Race every day. Ten races a day for a month will do more than one long session a week.
How to type 90 WPM? There is no trick: typists reach it through months of accurate practice with all ten fingers, plenty of reading ahead and very few corrections. How to improve English typing speed from 40 to 60 is the same path, only shorter.
Race in English, Hindi and other languages
The game can use text in any language the site supports. English learners can race in English; students preparing for exams can play a Hindi typing race game for variety between timed tests. Racing in a second language is also a fun way to learn common words and spellings.
